Montblanc pen refills9/19/2023 “Where will we get refills now?” one person tweeted. News of The Pen Corner’s demise was described on social media as “a sad day for Dublin” and “the end of an era” for one of the city’s best-loved retail institutions. However, lovers of pens – including well-known brands such as Cross, Waterman, Montblanc and Parker – will be relieved to learn there are now plans to move the business online after the shop closes. It’s understood the business has struggled to recover from Covid-19 restrictions, with reduced footfall in the city and high rents believed to be factors in the decision to close at the end of May. It is famous for its extensive range of fountain, ballpoint and rollerball pens, in addition to stocking a wide selection of ink, accessories and high-quality stationery items. The store, one of the most distinctive and recognisable in the city, first opened in 1927 and has been run by generations of the Fitzgerald family ever since. Iconic shop The Pen Corner, on Dublin’s College Green, is set to close before the summer after almost 100 years in business.
